According to police, the man was standing with others in an empty lot in the 7900 block of South Ashland Avenue at about 10:15 p.m. when someone fired shots in the area. The victim was hit twice in the left side and once in the arm and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say witnesses on scene were “very uncooperative” and refused to speak with officers about the incident.
