WHEATON, Ill. – A Chicago man has been arrested and charged in connection with a home invasion in Wheaton.

The Wheaton Police Department said just before 2 a.m. Thursday, officers were sent to a home in the 200 block of Verdi Court to investigate reports of an alleged home invasion in progress.

The home’s occupant called 911, saying someone they knew broke into their home, pointed a gun at them and threatened to hurt them. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Lee Owens, ran off prior to police arriving, but was found a short time later and taken into custody, according to investigators.

A gun matching the description provided by the victim was also recovered.

Owens has been charged with home invasion with a firearm, armed violence, residential burglary and intimidation.

He was taken to the DuPage County Jail on Thursday and on Friday, a judge granted the state’s motion to detain Owens pre-trial. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 28 at 9 a.m.
