SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The YMCA in Schaumburg will be closing its doors.

In a letter to members, staff of the Campanelli branch, located at 300 W. Wise Road, said a real estate development deal is causing the branch to close.

“… we have recently learned that the development company we were talking with has decided to move forward with the acquisition,” the letter stated.

The letter said youth sports and afterschool programs will still be offered and the daycare program will move to the Taylor branch, located at 50 N McLean Blvd, in Elgin. Members will have access to the Taylor facilities.

The letter stated that staff members from Campanelli will also transition to the Taylor YMCA.

The Daily Herald reports the 56-year-old YMCA is planning to relocate and a new facility is expected to open in the next 18 to 24 months and that the branch is closing because of a proposed townhome development.

So very sad to hear of this 😔 Where are these kids suppose to go for lessons,in door safe activities, and programs. My kids and I utilized the camps and classes that they offered. The YMCA will sorely be missed!
