    Boy, 8, shot inside South Side home; person in custody

    CHICAGO — An investigation is underway after a child was injured in a shooting inside a home on the city’s South Side.

    According to Chicago police, a gun was recovered from inside the house and a person was taken into custody.

    The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. Thursday in the 3800 block of West 87th Street.

    According to police, the victim, an 8-year-old boy was inside a residence in the area when he was shot in the chest.

    The child was later taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition, but was then transferred to Comer Children’s Hospital, according to community activist Andrew Holmes.

    Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting, but officers said the child knew the person who opened fire.

    An investigation into the shooting is currently underway.
