    CPD: Mutiple armed robberies in Chatham, Auburn Gresham linked to dating apps

    CHICAGO — Chicago police are warning people who use dating apps about a rash of armed robberies.

    Police said the suspects told five victims to meet at vacant or abandoned locations in the city’s Chatham and Auburn Gresham neighborhoods. Once the victims arrived, police said they were robbed at gunpoint by two to three men.

    Incidents and location times include:

    • 800 Block of E 90th St on Sept. 15 at 6:46 p.m.
    • 800 Block of E 90th St on Sept. 24 at 12:21 p.m.
    • 8100 Block of S Marshfield Ave on Oct. 3 at 6 a.m.
    • 8100 Block of S Marshfield Ave on Oct. 7 at 11:42 p.m.
    • 1600 block of W 82nd St on Oct. 9 at 8:59 p.m.

    According to police, the thieves also demanded money from contacts on the victims’ phones, refusing their release until the victim made a money transfer through cash apps.

    One of the victims also had their car stolen.
