Woman charged with attempted murder after man shot in Wonder Lake

WONDER LAKE, Ill. – A man was seriously injured and a woman has been charged after a shooting Thursday morning in unincorporated Wonder Lake.

Authorities said just after 11 a.m., McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to the 8900 block of East Tryon Grove Road to investigate reports of two people who had possibly been shot. When deputies arrived, they found a male victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound and a woman, identified as 45-year-old Anna Marsek, with non-life threatening injuries.

The man was flown to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford in critical condition, while Marsek was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to investigators.

While investigating, authorities determined Marsek was responsible for the shooting and charged her with the following:

• One count of attempted murder
• One count of aggravated battery with a firearm
• One count of aggravated domestic battery
• Two counts of obstructing justice

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
