CHICAGO – Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting Sunday evening on the Near North Side.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) said the shooting happened near the 300 block of West Division Street, just west of the Gold Coast neighborhood.

Chicago police later said at around 6:50 p.m., officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 300 block of West Division Street after receiving a call regarding a person with a gun. During the stop, the occupants disregarded the officers’ commands and drove off, hitting one of the police vehicles in the process.

One officer fired their service weapon toward the vehicle, which was later recovered in the 100 block of West North Avenue, according to investigators.

Police said a person of interest is in custody. No injuries were reported, but one officer was taken to an area hospital for observation.

The officer(s) involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days, according to the police department.

    No other information was released.
