CHICAGO — St. Sabina opened up a pantry Tuesday in Auburn Gresham.

The new pantry is located at 79th and May was opened by by St. Sabina’s social services team.

“What we wanna do here is for people to have dignity,” St. Sabina pastor Fr. Michael Pfleger said.

Pfleger made the decision to open up this pantry just a couple of weeks ago after Catholic Charities closed down the larger pantry next door after 10 years because of rising costs.

In addition to food, the pantry also has clothing and counseling services.

Soon, they hope to offer housing assistance as well.

“It’s amazing,” pantry worker Dre Sparks said. “The community definitely needs it.”

The pantry is on a first come first serve basis and is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
