Disaster recovery centers opening in Chicago and Homewood for residents affected by July storms

CHICAGO – Two disaster recovery centers will open Wednesday to help residents affected by the severe storms from July 13-16 .

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security said one recovery center will open in Chicago, while the other will open in Homewood. The precise locations and hours are as follows:

• Chicago Lawn Branch Library
  • 6120 S. Kedzie Ave Chicago, IL 60629
  • Hours: Mon. and Wed. 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Tues. and Thurs. 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Fri. and Sat. 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Sun. 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Village of Homewood Auditorium
  • 2010 Chestnut Road Homewood, IL 60430
    Hours: Mon. – Sun. 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Specialists from FEMA, the state of Illinois and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be at the recovery centers to assist those affected by the severe storms in applying for federal disaster assistance, uploading documents and answering any other questions.

Residents will also have the opportunity to learn about ways to make their homes more disaster resistant, according to officials.
