    American Airlines flight taken out of service after suffering engine damage while taxiing at O’Hare

    CHICAGO — An American Airlines flight arriving in Chicago from overseas was taken out of service after it suffered damage to its engine while taxiing to the gate at O’Hare on Thursday.

    According to officials from the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), the incident unfolded around 3 p.m. after American Airlines Flight 47, a Boeing 787-9, arrived at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport from Heathrow Airport in London.

    Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said after the plane landed, the crew reported an engine issue while the flight was taxiing to the gate.

    Emergency personnel were then called to the scene and the aircraft was towed to the gate

    CDA officials said all 283 passengers and 12 crew members on board safely deplaned at Terminal 5 following the incident and there were no significant impacts to airport operations.

    Officials from American Airlines said the plane was taken out of service to be inspected by a maintenance team. No injuries were reported.

    “After safely landing at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), American Airlines flight 47, with service from London-Heathrow (LHR), reported damage to its engine while taxiing to the gate at ORD. The aircraft has been taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team. Safety is our top priority, and we thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding,” an American Airlines spokesperson said.

    Currently, it is unclear what caused the damage and an investigation by the FAA is now underway.
