    Man accused in deadly West Englewood shooting

    CHICAGO — An Evergreen Park man is facing a felony charge in connection with a deadly shooting that unfolded on the Southwest Side late last year.

    According to Chicago police, 26-year-old Raheen Thompson has been charged with one count of first-degree murder. The charge stems from his alleged role in a shooting that left a 35-year-old man dead.

    Officers said the shooting unfolded just after 9 a.m. on Sept. 14, 2023, in the 6900 block of South Justine Street, in West Englewood.

    Police said the victim was riding a scooter in the area when Thompson allegedly approached with a gun drawn and opened fire, striking the victim in the leg and stomach.

    The victim suffered critical injuries in the shooting and later died at the hospital.

    Following the incident, Thompson evaded capture for more than a year, but police eventually caught up with him on Tuesday and he was taken into custody in the 7400 block of North Rogers Avenue.

    Thompson is set to appear in court for a detention hearing on Friday.
