Victoria Cox pleads not guilty to Brunett case charges in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. ( WGNO ) — The woman accused of being an accomplice in the Brunett murder and abduction case, Victoria Cox, pleaded not guilty to charges of capital murder, kidnapping and sexual battery in Jackson, Mississippi on Tuesday, July 16.
According to the Clerk of Court’s Office in Jackson, Cox was arraigned and pleaded not guilty.
On June 13, Callie Brunett was found dead inside her Loranger home with her two daughters, 3-year-old Erin Brunett and 6-year-old Jalie Brunett missing. An amber alert was then issued for the two children.
Later that day, Daniel Callihan was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi, where police say Jalie was found alive, and Erin was found dead in a wooded area.
According to the Hinds County Coroner, Erin’s cause of death was found to be asphyxiation.
Cox was later arrested as an alleged accomplice.
Callihan and Cox were charged with capital murder and sexual battery in Mississippi.
In Louisiana, a Tangipahoa Parish grand jury indicted Cox on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping of a child, second-degree kidnapping and accessory after the fact to first-degree murder on June 20.
On July 3, Nexstar Media’s WJTV News reported that Cox was indicted on charges of capital murder, kidnapping and sexual battery.
On Tuesday, the Clerk of Court’s Office in Jackson stated Cox is being held without bond and is awaiting extradition to Tangipahoa Parish.
