WACO, Texas ( WGNO ) — The GNO/JPRD little league baseball team avoids elimination with a 6-5 win over Richmond, Texas and advances to the Southwest Regional championship game.

GNO jumped out to a 3-0, first inning lead courtesy of a two-run home run by Cy Kirklin.

Kirklin would strike again in the bottom of the third with an RBI-single that extended the GNO lead, 6-1.

With their backs against the wall, Richmond, Texas would mount a furious comeback that cut the GNO lead to one after two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the top of the sixth.

Dominic Barranco took over pitching duties in the top of the sixth and surrendered one of those runs.

From that point on, Barranco was lights out.

With a 6-5 lead and two outs, Barranco would force a pop fly to shallow center field and CJ Newsome would record the final out of the game.

GNO/JPRD secured the 6-5 win over Richmond, Texas and set the stage for a rematch with Boerne, Texas in the Southwest Regional final.

The winner-take-all game is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday night. The regional champion advances to the Little League World Series field.

The GNO/JPRD win comes less than 24 hours after the Eastbank won the Intermediate Baseball World Series, giving us a look at the area’s next wave of high school baseball stars.
