The DOTD reported that the bridge was closed to traffic on March 14 to repair columns after an inspection showed additional structural wear to its support system.

On Thursday, the DOTD announced that the repairs on the Seabrook Bridge, also known as the Senator Ted Hickey Bridge, have been completed.

DOTD officials said the work included making repairs to steel columns that have been a part of the bridge since 1967.

New Orleans City Councilman Eugene Green commented on the bridge’s reopening, saying, “It is certainly good to see this bridge re-open. The Seabrook (Senator Ted Hickey) Bridge provides travel access to thousands of drivers and bicyclists each day. I encourage the State Department of Transportation and Development to prioritize the inspection and the conducting of the repairs that will keep this bridge open and safe to all commuters.”
