HARAHAN, La. ( WGNO ) — Droopy’s Snowballs is doing something sweet for kids going back to school. They gave away free school supplies to customers and their families.
Droopy’s Snowballs owners Brandon and Kelli Stiebing understand how kids feel about going back to school.
“No reason to feel droopy when you’re eating a droopy snowball,” Brandon said.
He went on to say, “We were just sitting around thinking of what way we could partner with the community to help out some of the kids that come to the stand, and my wife pitched the idea of ‘let’s go to Walmart and buy some school supplies.'”
“We have highlighters, pencils, notebooks, paper, Crayolas and everything you would need to set you up for success for back-to-school,” Kelli said.
“We just grabbed a basket and literally just filled it up,” Brandon Stiebing said.
“Even if it is $5 or $10, it is really tough in this economy. Just maybe we took a little burden off a parent to breathe a little better, and that is worth it to us,” she said.
The owners said that the free school supplies is for the kids that they feel like have been growing up in front of their eyes.
“We see parents come when they are pregnant, after they give birth and then sending off to pre-K, it really touches our heart. Like, we are really seeing their kids grow up in front of us and it is hard not love them like our own,” she said.
They are proving that school can be cool, just like a snowball.
“Crayolas are like the colors of the snowballs,” she said.
“People have blessed us. Our business has been thriving. God’s done so much. We wanted to give back to those that give to us,” he said.
Droopy’s Snowballs is also making the grade. The past two years it’s won “The Best of Snow” contest in Jefferson Parish.
Droopy’s Snowballs is located at 1133 Hickory Ave. in Harahan.
