NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Delgado Community College and Crescent City Sports are teaming up to honor WGNO Sports Director Ed Daniels.

This weekend, they will be distributing 5,000 “ED” helmet decals for area high school football programs to wear during week one of the regular season.

So far, 50 schools in the New Orleans metro area have committed to wearing the decals.

There are plenty of decals available. For more information, contact Delgado Community College’s Tyler Scheuermann at tscheu@dcc.edu.

    The deadline is Tuesday.

The idea has been given the stamp of approval from both the Louisiana High School Athletic Association and the Louisiana High School Coaches Association.

Daniels was a frequent contributor to Crescent City Sports and Clarion Herald. He founded WGNO’s Friday Night Football in 1992 with the help of John Curtis head football coach JT Curtis.

Daniels also worked closely with Delgado Community College to support additional prep sports programming on WGNO like Friday Night Sports and Friday Night Fastball. Delgado athletics director and head baseball coach, Joe Scheuermann was his co-host.

The helmet decals are one of many ways the local sports community Daniels passionately covered for decades is honoring his life and legacy.
