FRANKLINTON, La. ( WGNO ) — Franklinton head football coach Nick Saltaformaggio is an old friend of Ed Daniels.

To honor Daniels’ commitment to high school athletics in the community he called home, Saltaformaggio wanted to do something special for the WGNO Sports Director.

This week, Franklinton painted “Ed FNF” in the middle of their football field to honor the local prep sports icon. It will remain there for the entire 2024 season.

“On our 20-yard lines, we’re going to paint Friday Night Football from maybe the 14-yard line to the 16-yard line in big bold letters. We always paint the “flaming F” on our mid-field, it’s a staple of Franklinton football, forever it seems, and we’re going to paint “Ed” up on top of the F and we’re going to keep it there all year as a tribute to him,” said Saltaformaggio.

Daniels passed away Friday, Aug. 16, weeks after suffering a heart attack in California. Video of the field is courtesy of WGNO Sports Producer Mark Deane who tragically died Friday morning.

Season 33 of Friday Night Football, presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, continues Friday, Aug. 31, with our jamboree show. The hour-long program begins at 11 p.m. on Nola 38 the CW. The replay follows at midnight on WGNO.
