Hello rain chances! Gradual pattern change arrives this week

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Hello Rain Chances! At my house, I’ve received a whopping 0.01″ this month! New Orleans International is nearly 5″ below normal for the month of August.

~40% of Louisiana is now experiencing minor drought conditions.

A slow pattern change is on the way this week as several impulses of tropical moisture percolate over the Western Gulf of Mexico. Tropical development is not anticipated.

Rain coverage will gradually elevate, mainly along and south of I-10, by mid week into the weekend.

A weakening area of upper-level low pressure centered over Texas will help draw this moisture northward from southeast Texas to southeast Louisiana.

Highest rainfall totals will be along coastal zones where 1-3+ inches of rain is likely through the next week. Hot spots of higher amounts will be possible.
