NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Finally, rain chances on the way after a parched August.

Widespread 3-5” rainfall totals through next Wednesday across the western Gulf Coast. Hot spots of higher amounts likely.

Bubbling thunderstorms across the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. Unlikely to become a bonafide tropical cyclone; however, the chance is not zero.

Model guidance suggests broad area of lower pressure may develop over next 24 hours before moving northward into southeast Texas & western Louisiana.

The bigger story is the tropical moisture that will be drawn northward with this disturbance as it lingers through the weekend — possibly into next week.
