Five new restaurants to try in the Greater New Orleans area

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — The Greater New Orleans area is known for many unique cultural aspects, but perhaps the most noteworthy of them is the wide variety of food available to hungry inquirers from around the world.
For those who may be more accustomed to long-standing offerings, however, trying something new may very well be in order for an upcoming weekend out.
To help out prospective foodies, we’ve put together this list of five newly opened restaurants from across the culinary spectrum, hoping to offer something appealing to even the pickiest of eaters.
For a wide variety of foods and flavors, City Market at 1101 Elysian Fields Ave. in New Orleans is an ideal choice.
The market features six distinct eateries offering many items, including hamburgers, baked goods, sushi, bubble tea, Cajun staples and Vietnamese cuisine.
City Market may be a good option for groups of picky eaters, as the numerous options serve to provide something for everyone.
The establishment is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
2. Rascal Blues Chicken and Waffles
Rascal Blues , located at 1801 Rousseau St. in New Orleans, offers sweet and savory Southern foods for a comforting, at-home feeling.
The restaurant, which opened on Aug. 3 , is of course known for their chicken and waffles, but also offers many soul-food staples such as greens, corn bread and mac and cheese.
Rascal Blues is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and may be the perfect choice for people looking for an indulgent meal in a family-centric, musical and culturally unique setting.
3. Tacos del Cartel
Back in April, Tacos del Cartel opened a fresh location in New Orleans at 1010 Girod St., and with renovations happening at their older Metairie location as well, now is the perfect time to check out this vibrant spot for street tacos and Tex-Mex cuisine.
The restaurant offers a wide variety of tacos for customers to choose from, including eight specialty options, such as their duck carnitas taco, and eight traditional options, such as the classic tacos de asada, which is made with flank steak.
Tacos Del Cartel also offers many sides, soups, desserts and larger meals for groups. The New Orleans location is open on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., on Tuesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
4. Sushi Takumi
This new Japanese restaurant , located only a block away from the Superdome at 703 Carondelet St. in the Central Business District of New Orleans, was started in part because the owner, Johnny Wang, noticed a lack of affordable sushi restaurants.
The restaurant offers many, many varieties of sushi for customers to choose from, including classics like the California and Crunchy Rolls, and specialty rolls like the House Steak Roll, made with shrimp, snow crab and seared beef with avocado inside and scallions, BBQ eel sauce and spicy mayo on top.
Sushi Takumi is open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 11:30 a.m. 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. The restaurant is closed on Tuesday.
5. Savvy’s Sliders
Savvy Sliders , the fastest growing slider restaurant in the U.S., has opened a new location at 2565 Metairie Rd. in Metairie, bringing to this list a faster, more everyday kind of cuisine for the those who prefer to keep things simple.
One of Savvy’s main selling points is serving fresh, never frozen sliders in a variety of different configurations in order to meet anyone’s preference.
The fast-food joint offers simple staples on their sliders, such as angus beef, but also offer more unique options, such as the “Boomin’ Chicken” slider, made with fried chicken, pickles, lettuce and Savvy’s “Boom Sauce.”
For those less interested in sliders, the restaurant also features hand-breaded chicken fingers, fries, cheese curds, onion rings and well as nine different flavors of custard shakes.
Savvy’s Sliders is open from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday, and from 10:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
