NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Weather experts are calling this hurricane season above average for activity. With hurricanes, Louisiana residents know the importance of being able to connect with others when disaster strikes.

Staying connected through communication is at the top of the mind for thousands of folks during and after a hurricane strikes, and many depend on their cell phones.

“At Verizon we are committed to reliable communications, and this facility is responsible and required for everyday communications as well as those for natural disasters and emergencies,” said Associate Director of Network Performance Frank Fischer.

Verizon’s network facility in Louisiana went through a multi-year transformation of its network architecture to keep the signal strong.

“Power outage, internet outage, we can provide those assets. These are network tools that we use to help make our network better, stronger in case of some type of failure,” said Crisis Response for Verizon Frontline Trent Griggs.

Just like people during a storm, Verizon officials say the company aims for resilience through its connectivity.

During natural disasters, Verizon also has mobile workstations to help first responders and law enforcement.
