NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — A stein-hoisting competition to get you ready for Oktoberfest, a Cajun-themed triathlon and a tattoo and piercing convention are all on the books for this first weekend of September: Here are Where Y’at’s picks!

Grab Where Y’at at over 650 locations across Greater New Orleans, or visit WhereYat.com to read it online. The September issue features our cultural arts preview, with profiles on the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the New Orleans Ballet Association and more!

First, Samuel Adams celebrates their October Fest beer Thursday night at Bayou Beer Garden with a Stein-hoisting contest, with one person winning a Sam Adams commemorative ceramic stein. Grab the current issue of Where Y’at for a list of other area competitions as well as a chance to win your own “Sam Stein.”

Next, starting Friday, tattoo and piercing enthusiasts unite at the New Orleans Tattoo Convention, held at the Convention Center. This show, which runs through Sunday, features acclaimed artists as well as magicians and stars from the TV show Ink Masters.

Calling all BBQ lovers: on Saturday, head to Port Allen in West Baton Rouge, as the Oldies But Goodies Fest hosts the BCA Championship BBQ cookoff. Then, on Sept. 15, the fest continues with an antique car show featuring live music, a craft show and more.

Finally, this Sunday morning, LAtrail.org holds the CajunMan triathlon in Lafayette. Open to spectators, the morning will also feature a duathlon and a 5K run/walk with races for all athletic levels. Other upcoming competitions include the Cajun Country Run in December and Cycle Zydeco next spring.
