Mississippi woman killed in crash on Franklinton highway

WASHINGTON PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — A Mississippi woman is dead following a two-car crash on a highway in Franklinton on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The Louisiana State Police reported troopers responded to the crash just after 8:30 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 25 near Cypress Road.

It was determined that 51-year-old Teresa Brown-Garcia, of Jayess, Mississippi, was driving north on the highway in a 2015 Kia Forte. She veered off the road to the right and hit a guardrail before crossing back over the highway into the southbound lanes and crashing head-on with a 2020 Ford Taurus.

According to the LSP, Brown-Garcia wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was wearing a seatbelt but suffered serious injuries.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in crashes.
