BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that left a Hammond man dead in Livingston Parish.

Troopers were called around 11 a.m. Friday to a crash on Louisiana Highway 16 north of Louisiana Highway 1019 in Livingston Parish. Police identified the victim as Benjamin Starkey, 45, of Hammond.

According to LSP, Starkey was heading north on Louisiana Highway 16 in a 2023 Toyota Tacoma while a 2018 International tractor-trailer was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 16.

LSP said, “Starkey drove into a painted gore area. He then entered the southbound lane of travel where his Tacoma was struck head-on by the International.”

Starkey was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced dead, according to LSP. State police said Starkey was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A routine toxicology sample was taken for testing. This is an ongoing investigation.
