The initial investigation showed that the victim, 71-year-old Anthony Roque, was driving a 2019 Hyundai Sonata south on LA 23 when, for reasons that are still under investigation, it crossed the centerline and hit the left rear side of a 2020 Freightliner flatbed truck.

Roque was unrestrained and suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Freightliner was restrained and uninjured.

Routine toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
