METAIRIE, La. — In St. Martin’s 34-6 jamboree win over the Willow School, Ashton Oliver was effective in all three phases of the game.

Oliver returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, recorded two rushing touchdowns, and an interception on defense.

“It’s the best part about our team. You know, we’re so small. We have to play both ways. I love playing offense. I love playing defense. That feeling of getting that interception, scoring that touchdown, everyone is happy. It makes you feel so great, so good when everyone is cheering for you,” said St. Martin’s quarterback Ashton Oliver.

Oliver missed three games last year because of injury, but when healthy, the senior quarterback is a dynamic playmaker and the perfect compliment to running back Harlem Berry.

“We ask a lot out of a quarterback with reads and decision-making and a lot of things that he has to do. Harlem makes a lot of plays, but Ashton’s job is to make everybody else’s job easier with the offensive line and Harlem and the passing game. He does a really good job at that. He’s one of the smartest guys I’ve ever coached, and he makes it real easy for us out there on Friday night when he’s running the show,” said St. MArtin’s head coach Kevin Dizer.
