WASHINGTON PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — A 53-year-old Mount Hermon woman was killed in a wreck with two other vehicles in Franklinton on Friday, Sept. 6.

The Louisiana State Police reports that troopers responded to the crash just before 4:30 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 10 near Oak Tree Road.

It was determined that a Nissan Altima, driven by Rose Tate, was driving east on the highway. At the same time, a Toyota RAV4, followed by a Toyota Sienna, was driving west on the other side of the road.

According to the LSP, Tate lost control of her vehicle and crossed the centerline before crashing into the RAV4. After hitting the other vehicle, the Altima hit Tate’s vehicle.

Troopers report that Tate wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the crash. A passenger in the Altima, who also wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, suffered moderate injuries. Additionally, the driver of the RAV4 was wearing a seatbelt but also suffered moderate injuries. They were both taken to a hospital for treatment.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in crashes.
