BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — There were some tense moments early on for LSU football, after Nicholls pulled within two points on three separate drives.

Tiger fans also saw their starting quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier, limp off the field just before halftime. In the end, LSU pulled away from the Colonels in a 44-21 win inside Tiger Stadium on Saturday night.

It was the first ever meeting between LSU football and Nicholls.

Nussmeier ended his night with 302 passing yards and six touchdown tosses. The six touchdowns ties a Tiger Stadium record for touchdown passes in one ballgame (Jayden Daniels vs. Georgia State in 2023).

Kyren Lacy led the receiving corps with three touchdown grabs.

Nicholls’ Collin Guggenheim racked up 145 rushing yards, including a 67-yard touchdown run to get his team within two points of the Tigers, 23-21.

LSU will take on South Carolina in Columbia at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. Nicholls’ next game is on the road, as well, at Sacramento State at 8 p.m. on Sept. 14.

Tune in to your Louisiana Geaux Nation at 5 p.m. on Sunday for a complete wrap-up of the game on NBC 33 and at 9 p.m. on FOX 44.
