Sandbag locations open across Louisiana ahead of Tropical Storm Francine

LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — Ahead of Tropical Storm Francine’s expected landing on Wednesday, Sept. 11, several parishes have opened sandbag locations.
Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government officials announced sandbags would be brought to the parish’s low-lying area and that location will be open by the end of the day on Monday, Sept. 9.

A prefilled sandbag station will be reserved for elderly residents and residents with disabilities. There is a limit of 15 prefilled bags per vehicle.
Bags are available at the designated site at 1860 Grand Caillou Rd. Use the side road between the Public Works yard and Last Island Hardware (Old Shannon Hardware) and pick up bags at the side gates.
Sandbags will be available at the following dates and times:
Monday, Sept.9 from 2p.m. to 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
St. John the Baptist Parish
Locations will be open Monday, Sept. 9 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Residents are being asked to bring their own shovels to all locations.
Pre-filled bags will be available for the elderly and disabled at 425 Captain G. Bourgeois in LaPlace. There is a limit of 10 bags per person.
St. James Parish
Sandbag locations will open beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9. Resident should bring their own shovel.

St. Charles Parish
In preparation for the storm, sandbag locations will open for St. Charles Parish residents at the East and West Bank Bridge Parks beginning the afternoon of Monday, Sep. Residents should only take what they need and bring their own shovels.
Tangipahoa Parish
Tangipahoa Parish officials released a list of open self-serve sandbag locations. Residents will have to bring their own shovels.
“We encourage anyone who has had an issue with flash flooding or flooding following extended rain events to please come out and pick up sandbags,” said Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller.
