    Sandbag locations open across Louisiana ahead of Tropical Storm Francine

    LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — Ahead of Tropical Storm Francine’s expected landing on Wednesday, Sept. 11, several parishes have opened sandbag locations.

    Lafourche Parish

    A self-fill sandbag location will open at the Public Works Barn at 1219 Henry S. Thibodaux St. starting Monday, Sept. 9.

    Terrebonne Parish

    Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government officials announced sandbags would be brought to the parish’s low-lying area and that location will be open by the end of the day on Monday, Sept. 9.

    • Donner Community Center — 361 Azalea Dr. | Donner
    • Devon Keller Memorial Center — 5575 Bayou Black Rd. | Gibson
    • Public Works (North Campus) — 206 Government St. | Gray
    • Gibson East Fire — 5218 North Bayou Black Rd. | Gibson
    • West Terrebonne Fire — 110 Merry Moss St. | Gibson
    • Mechanicville Gym — 2814 Senator St. | Houma
    • Upper Dularge Fire — 631 Bayou Dularge Rd | Houma
    • Bayou Black Fire — 2820 Savanne Rd. | Houma
    • Civic Center — 346 Civic Center Blvd | Houma

    A prefilled sandbag station will be reserved for elderly residents and residents with disabilities. There is a limit of 15 prefilled bags per vehicle.

    Bags are available at the designated site at 1860 Grand Caillou Rd. Use the side road between the Public Works yard and Last Island Hardware (Old Shannon Hardware) and pick up bags at the side gates.

    Sandbags will be available at the following dates and times:

    • Monday, Sept.9 from 2p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

    St. John the Baptist Parish

    Locations will be open Monday, Sept. 9 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

    • Central Avenue Fire Station | Reserve
    • Ezekiel Jackson Park | Garyville
    • Juan Anthony Joseph Memorial Park | Edgard
    • Wallace Fire Station
    • Lucy Fire Station
    • Pleasure Bend Fire Station

    Residents are being asked to bring their own shovels to all locations.

    Pre-filled bags will be available for the elderly and disabled at 425 Captain G. Bourgeois in LaPlace. There is a limit of 10 bags per person.

    St. James Parish

    Sandbag locations will open beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9. Resident should bring their own shovel.

    • Grand Point Fire Station – 32122 Hwy 642, Paulina
    • Admirals Landing at 3125 – Across from Asahi America, Inc
    • End of 642 at the Back of Grand Point
    • Grand Point Truck Stop
    • Town of Lutcher – Lutcher Avenue across from Water Plant
    • Town of Gramercy – River Road in front of the water plant
    • South Vacherie Fire Training Center – 29126 Health Unit St., Vacherie
    • Kingview Fire Station – 8120 Kingview Street in St. James
    • 7th District Park – 13271 Jake Gravois Street
    • First Baptist Church – 1244 Magnolia Heights Street

    St. Charles Parish

    In preparation for the storm, sandbag locations will open for St. Charles Parish residents at the East and West Bank Bridge Parks beginning the afternoon of Monday, Sep. Residents should only take what they need and bring their own shovels.

    Tangipahoa Parish

    Tangipahoa Parish officials released a list of open self-serve sandbag locations. Residents will have to bring their own shovels.

    “We encourage anyone who has had an issue with flash flooding or flooding following extended rain events to please come out and pick up sandbags,” said Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller.
