    LATEST: Tropical Storm Francine forms in the Gulf

    NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — The National Hurricane Center has just released their latest information regarding the tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico. As of now the storm has better organized itself, strengthening to a Tropical Storm. Francine now has sustained winds of 50 mph.

    The track of the storm is still leaning towards a Louisiana landfall. Most of the Louisiana coast will be on the eastern side of the hurricane on Wednesday, meaning storm surge will be a growing concern for coastal communities. Wind speeds will begin ramp up on WEDNESDAY MORNING. Gusts 40+ are to be expected.

    Rainfall potential still remains at 5-7″ widespread, with potentially higher amounts in localized areas. Flash flooding WILL be seen across portions of SE and central LA.
