St. Tammany Parish prepares for Tropical Storm Francine

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — In St. Tammany Parish, one of the biggest concerns ahead of the arrival of Tropical Storm Francine, is heavy rain.

Parish workers have been inspecting ponds to ensure that water levels are as low as possible. Additionally, the parish ordered fuel to top off all of its tanks.

Flooding is the main concern. To aid in that concern, the parish has opened five locations for people to fill sandbags.

• Fritchie Public Works Barn (63119 LA-1090, Pearl River)
• Keller Public Works Barn (63131 Fish Hatchery Road, Lacombe)
• St. Tammany Parish Government Complex (21410 Koop Drive, Mandeville)
• Covington Public Works Barn (1305 N. Florida St., Covington)

“The main thing is to stay off the roads during the event. Stay home. Be as self-reliant as you can. Check on your neighbors, and know what your plan is. And if you’re somebody who’s vulnerable, now’s the time to make a plan to maybe travel northwest of here. Get away and come back Thursday or Friday. Let the storm pass,” said St. Tammany Parish Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Clint Ory.

Ory says the parish will have a better idea on Tuesday morning regarding what government offices will be closed, and when.
