    Two arrested after Ponchatoula hurricane patrol traffic stop leads to drug bust

    PONCHATOULA, La. ( WGNO ) — Two people were arrested on drug charges in Ponchatoula following a hurricane patrol traffic stop that occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

    According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, the arrests were made as the effects of Hurricane Francine were beginning to be felt across southern Louisiana. While out on patrol due to the weather, TPSO narcotics detectives stopped a vehicle due to observing several alleged violations.

    While speaking with the driver, identified as 28-year-old Tristan Cummings, of Ponchatoula, detectives allegedly saw illegal items, prompting a search.

    During the search, detectives claim they found both methamphetamine and heroin on Cummings. On the other passenger, identified as 36-year-old Ashley Perrin, of Ponchatoula, detectives allegedly found methamphetamine, heroin and Clonazepam, “all hidden in underwear.”

    TPSO officials said Cummings was booked for possession of heroin and methamphetamine as well as traffic violations, while Perrin was booked for possession with the intent to distribute heroin, possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamines and possession with the intent to distribute Clonazepam, which is a variant of Xanax.
