NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) – Helene is still a tropical storm with sustained winds reported at 65 mph as of this morning. The track has not shifted all too much, still a major threat to the Big Bend region of Florida. A Cat. 3 hurricane is expected to make landfall on Thursday night.

There is a massive wind threat with this storm. Hurricane force winds can be seen as far inland as central Georgia. Wide spread power outages and some structural damage will be seen.

Locally our coastal waters will become rough through the start of the weekend. A Small Craft Advisory and Gale Watch has been issued.

After a cold front passes through tonight, slightly cooler and less humid air filters in for the rest of the workweek and into the weekend. Temperatures will be in the lower 60s along the Northshore come Friday morning.
