‘Big Banana award’ fame for French Quarter restaurant

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — It’s a golden moment.

And if there were a trophy, it would be gold, too.

A gold banana.

And it goes to the mighty pink palace in the French Quarter, Brennan’s.

Here, when you sit down for supper, WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood says, you save the best for last.

It’s Bananas Foster.

The dish that was dished here first, was born back in 1951.

Named for a family friend named Richard Foster.

You’ll see his picture hanging in the bar.

And now, Brennan’s gets the big award.

The restaurant has been inducted into the Dole Banana Hall of Fame.

A sacred society for the dishes, drinks and desserts that make Brennan’s bananas, the top banana.
