SCOTT, La. ( KLFY ) — A man who was caught on video being choked by a Scott Police lieutenant at this year’s Scott Boudin Festival has been shot to death, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder, authorities said.

Treveon Cobb, 21, is charged with second degree murder, according to police.

Authorities said officers with the Scott Police Department responded at approximately 7:20 p.m. Monday to the 1200 block of Victoria Street in reference to a shooting in progress. Officers found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim was identified as 21-year-old Anthony Babino. Babino’s story went viral after video was released showing Scott Police Lieutenant Brun Lavergne allegedly choking the unarmed Babino outside the annual Scott Boudin Festival.

Harry Daniels, Babino’s attorney, said the family will “continue to fight for accountability” in the alleged choking.

“This is a heartbreaking moment for the Babino family. But we cannot let Anthony’s death be the death of justice,” Daniels said. “Now it’s up to us to fight even harder in Anthony’s memory so this kind of wanton violence ends today.”

Cobb’s bond was set at $500,000.
