POLLOCK, La. ( WNTZ ) – A Grant Parish man facing multiple criminal charges died by suicide in jail less than a week after his arrest, according to authorities.

Landon Carter, 28, of Pollock, was arrested by the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office on September 18, 2024, on charges of sexual battery, battery of a dating partner, telephone harassment, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, and criminal damage to property.

On September 23, deputies at the Grant Parish Detention Center interacted with Carter throughout the day. During a routine check, a deputy discovered that Carter had hanged himself using a bed sheet.

Deputies immediately initiated CPR and called for an ambulance. Despite lifesaving efforts by paramedics and deputies, Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is ongoing
