NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — New Orleans is a city with music in its soul. It can be heard nightly in nightclubs and theaters, at famous festivals, and even on our city streets. Starting Thursday, Sept. 26 is all about the music that makes New Orleans special: here are Where Y’at’s picks.

    • First, NOLAxNOLA 2024 is a two-week celebration of music in New Orleans. Taking place in iconic venues across the city, it features a diverse lineup of local and national artists…making it a must-visit celebration for music enthusiasts. Visit NolaXNola.com for more info.
    • Next, the International Arts Festival is back, kicking off tomorrow at the Orpheum Theater with Donald Harrison Jr. and Kirk Whalum. Then this weekend in Armstrong Park, bands such as Steel Pulse, The Average White Band, and Spyro Gira will keep the crowds dancing.
    • Friday night Sept. 27, and on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2:30, the New Orleans Opera returns to the Mahalia Jackson Theater with Puccini’s “Tosca”: a timeless opera about love and political intrigue in Rome. Stay after tomorrow night’s performance to enjoy “Party on the Plaza” in Armstrong Park Piazza…with live music, dancing, and more.
    • Finally, Saturday, Sept. 28 brings the BlackAmericana Fest , a new free festival to the Broadside that celebrates the musical heritage of Black artists in the Americana and Folk genres in New Orleans and the Mississippi River Delta region. Headlining artists include Joy Clark, Lilli Lewis, and Sunpie & the Louisiana Sunspots.

Follow Where Y’at on social media for exclusive content about the best that New Orleans has to offer in dining, nightlife, and more. And for ideas on what to do this weekend, pick up the new issue of Where Y’at at restaurants, coffee shops, and retail outlets all over greater New Orleans.
