    Man dead following crash on elevated Twin Span

    NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating after a man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Friday morning, Sept. 27.

    According to officers, at 1 a.m., they were called to the scene of a vehicle on fire on Interstate 10 eastbound near Ridgeway Boulevard, on the elevated portion of the twin span.

    An investigation revealed a Ford F-250 pickup truck caught on fire and the driver pulled over to the right side of the highway. Officers said the man got out of the truck but was struck by a woman driving a Kia in the right lane.

    He was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.

    St. Tammany Parish authorities were also alerted to dispatch a boat to check the waters beneath for additional victims or evidence.

    The woman remained on the scene after the crash. A toxicology test rendered negative results and the woman was released once the on-scene investigation was done.
