SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) – Nominations are now being accepted for the Louisiana Agricultural Hall of Distinction ceremony that will be held in Baton Rouge in early 2025.

The hall recognizes people who have profoundly affected agriculture in the state of Louisiana, and nominees from any area of agriculture, including farming, ranching, fisheries, aquaculture, education, and agribusiness will be considered.

Matt Lee is the Dean of the College of Agriculture at Louisiana State University. He said that people engaged in agriculture do so with great risk, and this event helps recognize those people that are willing to take that risk so that we may have the food and fiber we need to live comfortably.

The induction ceremony will be held on Mar. 6.

In 2024, three people were inducted into the hall. They were Ralph Abraham, a former veterinarian, US congressman, and current Louisiana surgeon general; Steve Crawford, a weed scientist and crop consultant with LSU AgCenter; and Leodrey Williams, the former chancellor of Southern Univerity’s Agricultural Research Center.

So far, 34 people have been inducted into the Louisiana Agricultural Hall of Distinction, which is a cooperative effort project of the Louisiana Radio Network, LSU AgCenter, Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

Visit www.louisianaagriculturehallofdistinction.com to nominate someone for the Louisiana Agricultural Hall of Distinction, or contact any parish LSU AgCenter office. The deadline is Nov. 18.

For more information, contact Don Molino with the Louisiana Radio Network at 225-291-2727, ext. 210, or Bobby Soileau with the LSU AgCenter at 225-578-3659.
