ABBEVILLE, La. ( KLFY ) — Students and staff of Vermilion Parish Schools will be slightly less connected for the foreseeable future after a possible cyberattack of the schools’ computer system, authorities said.

In a message posted on the Abbeville High School Facebook page , VPSS announced that all system networks and internet have been placed offline to “investigate a potential compromise of our systems.”

“An expert team from Baton Rouge will be leading the inquiry and guide us on next steps,” the post reads. “We feel like we caught the attack early but we want to be proactive in moving forward and prevent any further compromising of our system.”

Since the phone system is internet-based, the school’s phone lines were down this morning, but have since been restored.

No estimated timeline for restoration of the schools’ computer system has been released.
