MANDEVILLE, La. ( WGNO ) — You don’t have to go far to immerse yourself in Mandeville’s natural beauty and get some great exercise at the same time.

WGNO’s Kenny Lopez takes you for a ride on the Tammany Trace at the Mandeville Trailhead.

Avid bike riders can enjoy cycling along the Tammany Trace, which is about 35 miles from Covington to Slidell.

“You can really explore the Northshore communities all by bike. Just love taking in all the wildflowers, snakes, turtles, rabbits, you name it,” said Mignon Guerin with the New Orleans Bike Club.

“I remember one morning, I saw a deer in front of me,” said cyclist Brigitte Gomane.

“I turned the corner and there was an alligator sitting right there. So, you can see a lot of wildlife. We just passed by kind of slow and he took off. He didn’t bother us,” said cyclist John Crosby.

All these riders say the benefits go beyond the Trace.

“People who are engaged in a natural environment, it always benefits them mentally,” said Guerin.

“It is a safe place. You do have to obey the stop signs while crossing all these intersections,” said Crosby.
