Local National Night Out Against Crime events across Southeast Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Tuesday, Oct. 8 is marked as National Night Out Against Crime and law enforcement agencies across Southeast Louisiana are encouraging neighborhoods to get involved.

In observance of the day, agencies in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes will hold events such as block parties and gatherings with free food and giveaways.

Demonstrations are also held to provide information on how to keep communities safe.

Law officials, in partnership with Crimestoppers and local businesses, say this will unite neighbors and take a stand against crime.

Events:

Jefferson Parish

• Harvey — 13th Annual National Night Out Against Crime
  • Summerfield Apartment Homes — 1500 Lorene Drive
    • Tuesday, Oct. 8, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Orleans Parish

• National Night Out Against Crime Block Party
  • Trinity United Missionary Methodist Baptist Church — 3501 N. Claiborne Ave.
    • Tuesday, Oct. 8, 5 p.m.
• National Night Out Against Crime
  • Stronger Hope Baptist Church — 2401 South Galvez St.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 8, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Bocage Civic Association & Aurora UMC National Night Out 2024
  • Aurora United Methodist Church — 3300 Eton St.
    • Tuesday, Oct. 8, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

St. Tammany Parish

• Slidell — Thursday, Oct. 10, Heritage Park
  • 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Officers in other parishes including St. Bernard, Tangipahoa and Plaquemines, will have an increased patrol on the roads in recognition of the day.

St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann said deputies will visit various events to meet with residents to forge relationships and discuss crime prevention.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office will also have deputies on patrol from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., engaging with residents to strengthen the “police-community partnership and enhance neighborhood safety.”

Another way to observe the day is to leave your porch light on to show you are against crime.
