RESERVE, La. — Dedric Lastie and Riverside Academy won both meetings with St. Martin’s last year and knew Friday night they would have to weather the storm that was LSU commit Harlem Berry.

“The offensive line did they had to do. The receivers did everything he had to do, plus more. We kept each other in the game. So when Harlem went out there and scored, we knew that we were about to come back on the field and go score again,” said Riverside’s Dedric Lastie.

Riverside defeated St. Martin’s 76-37 thanks to a record-breaking performance from their senior running back. Dedric Lastie carried the rock 30 times for 534 yards with nine total touchdowns.

“I was surprised at the number of yards and the touchdowns because that’s crazy. I mean, that’s like video game stats. I had to control, like my emotions at the time because I was ready to blow up because that was crazy,” said Lastie.

“You know Dedric never amazes me what he can do with the football. If you get him enough carries and you block it up and give it enough at-bats with good looks, he’s going to hit the home run and he did that Friday night. You never expect 534 and 9 touchdowns but you know what he’s capable of especially if you play well up front which we did,” said Riverside head football coach Lee Roussel.

Riverside’s 5’4″, 140-pound phenom totaled 2,500 yards rushing and 42 touchdowns last year. His performance Friday night was a reminder of how special he can be when the ball is in his hands.

Riverside’s Dedric Lastie, our Best Chevrolet Best Player of the Week.”
