Man arrested following Goodbee-area fatal shooting of 15-year-old girl

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — A man was arrested on Friday following the death of a 15-year-old girl who was shot while sitting in the living room of a Goodbee-area home on Tuesday, July 16.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, over the course of the investigation it was found that, the man, identified as 59-year-old Wesner Fonrose, was handling a firearm with a round in the chamber while children were in the home. As he manipulated it, the gun “accidentally” went off.

The bullet went through the wall and fatally struck a teenage girl, who was sitting in the living room. The victim was airlifted to a hospital, but later died due to her injury.

The STPSO arrested Fonrose on Aug. 2. He is charged with negligent homicide.

“This is a sad and tragic event and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Whenever a child is involved in a tragic accident, it affects the entire community,” said Sheriff Randy Smith.
