Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - A short week for the Buffalo Bills heading down south taking on division rival the Miami Dolphins. A close game on Sunday coming down to the wire. The Bills opponent doesn't get easier taking on the Dolphins on a short week.

The Bills will be without cornerback Taron Johnson, along with and defensive end Dawuane Smoot according to head coach Sean McDermott. McDermott also announced that defensive end Javon Solomon is listed as doubtful for Thursday.

Josh Allen was on the injury report with a hand injury, but was able to practice in full the entire week. Allen was also seen wearing a glove in practice and is expected to play Thursday.

"The trainers have done a really nice job, again, in a short window of time because of the quick turnaround." McDermott said on the "Extra Point Show." "I think, you know, everyone's done a phenomenal job, including Josh, and you know, he'll play a big part for us in the game."

The loss of Johnson was huge for the defense, the Bills looked to a couple players from the University at Buffalo to help step up with Cam Lewis and Ja'Marcus Ingram stepping up. McDermott felt that Ingram's training camp performance helped him in his performance Week 1, and was happy to see local guys step up on Sunday.

Going up against a high powered offense with Miami, McDermott has been preaching ball security and making sure that drives are ending in points.

"Typically against the Dolphins with their high powered offense, it's about points, not yards, and then taking care of the football." McDermott said. "You look at the games that we've played, the first game last season, we were able to take the ball away and score and score touchdowns rather than field goals, and in the second game we had yards, but not as many points. So it's points over yards and making sure we take care of the ball."

Kickoff this Thursday is set for 8:15 p.m. ET and can be heard with Chris Brown, Eric Wood and Sal Capaccio on the call.
