Missing girl found safe at pool
A missing 11-year-old girl was found unharmed just outside of El Campo Friday, but likely in far deeper water than she planned. Before the child was found, an entire shift of Wharton County Sheriff’s deputies went door-to-door in the area around Ellwood Street in the Isaacson Municipal Utility District for two hours trying to find the child last seen riding a bicycle around 3:30 p.m. or any information about her.

Released from custody, Bustamante not fully free
A former El Campo High School coach guilty of exposing himself to a child may have been released from the Wharton County Jail, but isn’t completely free. Audie Bustamante, 60, must spend the next 10 years as a registered sex offender and follow all requirements of the status. The requirement starts as soon as the Texas Department of Corrections finishes processing what should have been his intake paperwork.
Wharton County Celebrates Juneteenth
The El Campo Juneteenth Committee hosted its annual Juneteenth Celebration Saturday at Willie Bell Park in El Campo. The celebration started with a parade that ended at the park, followed by hours of community and cook-outs.
Natural gas transport coming to Danevang
Newly purchased property near Danevang will soon have a natural gas pumping station after Wharton County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a property plat last session. The BANGLE subdivision is located near Danevang, at or near the intersection of CR 401 and FM 441. “The landowner recently purchased 4.02 acres of land that was previously a part of a much larger, non-platted area of rural land,” County Judge Phillip Spenrath said.
