The Fresh Fix Owners Opening New Bakery in Newburyport’s Buttermilk Baking Co. Space

Newburyport is in for a sweet new addition.

Rachel Null and Tanya Gioldasis , the owners behind health-forward eatery The Fresh Fix , recently announced that they would be acquiring Buttermilk Baking Company.

The duo plans to revamp the space—located just two doors down from The Fresh Fix at 9 Liberty St —into The Fresh Flour , keeping many of Buttermilk’s “legendary recipes” while adding their own “fun twist” to the menu.

According to The Daily News of Newburyport , Null and Gioldasis—who bring more than two decades of restaurant experience to the table—are in the process of finalizing the purchase. Once the transition is complete, they will continue to run The Fresh Fix, serving up their signature açaí bowls, smoothies, and sandwiches.

Buttermilk Baking Co. owner Ashley Bush began her baking journey 12 years ago in the same 3 Liberty St space The Fresh Fix now calls home. Two years later, she moved into her current 1,200-square-foot location. But with a baby on the way, Bush has decided to pass the torch.

Null and Gioldasis will make minor updates to the bakery’s interior to reflect their own style and vision. Buttermilk Baking Co. will serve its final pie on August 24, 2024, with The Fresh Flour expected to debut in the space by late September or early autumn.

“Hopefully we can carry the legendary status [Bush has] had in the community,” said Null.
