On Saturday, March 30, 2024, King BBQ , a popular restaurant in North Charleston , sustained a minor fire.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported at the site of the fire at 2029 Carver Ave . North Charleston Fire Department Assistant Chief Christan Rainey told The Post and Courier that firefighters were alerted at 2:08 p.m. and arrived at the scene within two minutes.

Upon arrival, the fire crews discovered a slight haze and detected a heat signature within a wall. They promptly opened the wall and directed water between the studs to extinguish the fire.

In an Instagram post addressing the incident, King BBQ owners Corrie and Shuai Wang expressed their gratitude for the support they have received and their determination to overcome this setback, stating, “We did our ugly crying yesterday, today we’re up and onwards. We cannot wait to be back open, but please be patient as we navigate through yet another new challenge.”

While King BBQ, known for its unique blend of Chinatown barbecue with southern smoke flavors, will be temporarily closed to facilitate permit applications and necessary repairs, the Wangs anticipate reopening in approximately one week.

In the interim, locals can support the Wangs by dining at Jack Rabbit Filly , which serves New Chinese American cuisine for dinner from Mondays through Saturdays and offers a dim sum brunch on Sundays.
