Family Owned Ice Cream Shop to Open a Location in Canal Winchester

According to a recently published Columbus Business First article, Columbus family owned ice cream shop Johnson’s Real Ice Cream has announced it will open a shop in Canal Winchester at 20 N High St by late May. This announcement comes on the heels of the news that broke late last month that the company plans to open a store in Italian Village this spring, at 869 N 4th St.

Also opening this year is another scoop shop located in Grandview at 1325 Grandview Ave, which is slated to open in March. Currently, the business has three ice cream stores open in Dublin, Bexley and New Albany, with 2024 set to be a year that will see the company doubling its locations from three to six.

Johnson’s Real Ice Cream has been serving the Columbus area since 1950 and is a family owned company, and the president of the business, Matt Wilcoxon, is the grandson of the founder.

During a phone interview with What Now Columbus last fall, Wilcoxon shared that in their peak season in the summer months, the ice cream shops serve upwards of 30 ice cream flavors, available by the scoop in a cone or cup. The scoop shops also offer shakes, sundaes and ice cream cakes, as well as pints to take home.
