Youngers Irish Tavern in Romeo closed its ground-floor restaurant for remodeling and rebranding this March. Now, it looks like the new concept is finally getting close to meeting the public as the tavern has started hiring for a new restaurant staff.

“We’ve been hard at work transforming into a new beautiful restaurant that we are so excited for you all to enjoy!” The business posted on its Facebook page last month, though the owner did not respond to follower comments asking about a reopening date. The tavern organized a garage sale featuring all its decors and furniture items, leading to some patrons suggesting the establishment will no longer maintain its pub atmosphere.

Youngers Irish Tavern, founded by serial entrepreneur Glenn Wilhelm 17 years ago, is known for its delicious burgers, Friday fish dinners, and a second-floor showroom packed with live performances. Wilhelm also owns The Roxy on Walnut Street in Rochester. The Roxy is the sister venue of The Showroom, located on the second floor of Youngers.

“We have been so fortunate for 17 incredible years of memories that were made with our customers, our town & our staff as Youngers Irish Tavern. We can’t thank you enough for all the support that you have shown us over our 17 year journey, as we begin this new chapter, we look forward to many more great times.” The tavern first made an announcement on its website regarding the remodeling and rebranding earlier this year.

What Now Detroit reached out to Wilhelm for a reopening timeframe but hadn’t heard back by the time of this coverage. Wilhelm is also working on developing a secondary social lounge to serve as an auxiliary space for The Roxy, as previously reported .
